Injury relief and repair

Overview

Often called a sport massage it is essentially a deep tissue massage targeted at a specific area of the body that has suffered some injury that it  needs assistance in recovering from.

Sports massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity. Soft tissue is connective tissue that has not hardened into bone and cartilage; it includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (a form of connective tissue that lines and ensheathes the other soft tissues).

Side effects

For the most part, sports massage is safe with very few side effects.

Potential side effects of sports massage include tenderness or stiffness for one to two days after a therapy session.

It’s also possible that you could have a skin reaction to the massage oils used.

You may feel some discomfort during or after a sports massage, but it should not cause significant pain. If you feel pain beyond what some call “the good kind of hurt,” tell your therapist right away.

Benefits

Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.
